Dr. Maarten Van Herck: “Fatigue in chronic respiratory diseases and beyond: from measurement to treatment”

Maarten Van Herck did an academic bachelor’s and master’s degree in rehabilitation sciences and physiotherapy at Hasselt University, and is currently finishing his joint PhD entitled ‘Fatigue as a key feature in people with asthma, COPD and long covid’ at the university of Hasselt and Maastricht. His research initially focused on fatigue in chronic respiratory diseases and the effect of rehabilitation. During the COVID-19 pandemic his scope expanded to include long covid. After his 4-year PhD term, Maarten worked as a researcher at Ciro (Horn, the Netherlands) and the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Lung Health and Sigmund Freud Private University (Vienna, Austria). Since December 2023, Maarten has been appointed as a staff member of the preventive healthcare division of the Department of Care of the Flemish Government (Belgium).

Prof. dr. An De Groef: “Cancer-related fatigue: practical tools for physiotherapists”

Prof. dr. An De Groef is a postdoctoral researcher of the Research Foundation – Flanders and an assistant professor at the University of Leuven and University of Antwerp (Belgium). She is a physiotherapist with a special interest in the evaluation, prevention and treatment of various comorbidities of cancer treatments, especially pain, fatigue and upper limb dysfunctions.
